The northeast has been hit with some ferocious winter storms the past few weeks.  These storms have brought some howling winds and heavy wet snowfall. While it’s great to sit inside and watch as the snow piles up, the aftermath isn’t quite so fun. With the heavy wet snow, wind and the cold temperatures outside, your home exterior could suffer some storm damage that can wreak havoc.

After every winter snow storm it’s important to go outside and inspect your home.  You want to make sure the home’s roof, gutter system and siding is still properly aligned and working as expected.

Roofing Inspection

It’s important to look thoroughly at your roof and insure there isn’t any missing or damaged shingles. If you have any damaged areas it’s important to get them fixed as soon as possible. The melting snow on your roof could lead to leaks into your home’s structure which would be a very costly fix.

Gutters Inspection

You should also be checking there aren’t any clogged in your gutters and down spouts. These clogs could be caused by debris or ice which in turn would form dams of water on your roof. Really, it would just be matter of time before the water would find its way through the roof. Make sure that the gutters are secure and are still holding the correct positioning. Wind and heavy snowfall can alter your gutters alignment causing many drainage issues.

Siding Inspection

Make sure your siding is still intact, especially with the storms the northeast has been hit with in the past few weeks. Wind damage can cause your siding to come loose and rip away from your home. Wet snow or rain then would have access to your home’s inner structure. This obviously could cause some water damage to your home and could eventually lead to mold issues.
