Summer Roof Maintenance

Maintenance of your roof in the summer is very important if you want to ensure your roof can withstand the hot weather. With summer comes a multitude of rain, humidity, lightning, winds, and high temperatures; meaning there’s a high chance for something to malfunction on your roof. Doing this maintenance will only help the structure over your head last longer and do its job.

Here are five key maintenance tips recommended for the summer weather:

  • First, you need to take a quick and easy inspection by walking around your house, on the ground, looking for shingle lift, missing shingles, any fungal growth, or debris that has been collected over time in the valleys on your roof.
  • Next, you need to inspect the flashing (metal strips) around all of the protrusions on your roof. For instance, a chimney, satellite dish, or a skylight.
  • Next, you need to check the bottom of the eaves for some debris that may have piled up.
  • Lastly, there are two things to be done with the gutters. Check for any loose ones and clean them out. Loose ones must be tightened, making sure the gutters are properly aligned. After cleaning the gutters, test them for any leaks by running water through them with a garden hose.

Doing this maintenance will help your house stay healthy and ready-to-go for whatever summer weather comes your way, not to mention save you time and money down the road.
